Tasting notes:
Served in a basket, this burger came with FB sauce which became a decisive factor. The sauce seems to be some type of coleslaw with old bay seasoning. As you can see in the pic, the sauce is runny, and when combined with the caramelized onions, gave the burger a very wet mouthfeel. Making my way to the other side of the burger, I determined the patty actually had a great texture with a chewy sear and a smooth inside: just what I am looking for. The sauce had dominated, but with a little bit less, the texture really came together. The bun also had a nice chew to it. The patty had a simple seasoning and the beef flavor really came through. You can tell the beef used here is a high quality since having so much beef flavor is a bold move but it works great here. The cheese was totally lost and I did not get any hint of cheddar. It is possible they are using a non-sharp chedder, but then the cheese would just give more a creamy texture which is already there form the sauce and onions.
Background:
My wife Jen was the guest of honor for this one. We originally dipped into Farm Burger up in Asheville, NC during what I believe was our first trip there. The burger was fantastic so when we found out there was a sister restaurant in Decatur, GA we headed back there. It's a nice little restaurant tucked on the slightly less traveled west side of downtown Decatur. Despite being a little out of the way, the place is usually busy but the burgers are cooked at about the same rate as people come and go so finding a table is never difficult. You can even sit at the about 10 seat bar and grab a beer with your burger. They have a variety of options and you can always build your own burger. Normally I like an egg on my burger but for this visit, I had to stick with the original. If you are in town definitely swing in and check it out.
